Rockville and Gaithersburg go green

The cities of Rockville and Gaithersburg are hosting special green events in the month of April in honor of Earth Month. The first week of April is packed with events including a free documentary screening and a community clean-up day.

Environmental Awards Ceremony – Sponsored by Gaithersburg’s Environmental Affairs Committee, the 12th Annual Environmental Awards recognize individuals, businesses, schools, homeowner’s associations, nonprofits, and scouting groups for their commitment to the environment. The event is at 6:15 p.m. on April 2nd at City Hall Gallery, 31 S. Summit Ave.

Environmental Film Night – On April 4th, join the city of Gaithersburg for a special free screening of the film “People of a Feather”.

Community Green Up Day – From 9 a.m. to noon on April 6, you can help make a difference in the community by cleaning up and beautifying local streams, parks and schools.  Details will be released soon.


Rockville Earth Month Events

Green Your Backyard in Rockville. On April 13 at 10 a.m. learn about RainScapes Rewards and other City programs designed to help you green your back yard and reduce pollution in this free information session.

Arbor Day Tree Planting – On Tuesday, April 23 at 10 a.m. school children and girl scouts will plant two trees in an arbor day ceremony. This open event is located at College Gardens Elementary School, 1700 Yale Pl.

Spring Festival and Native Plant Sale – The Croydon Creek Nature Center will have crafts, activities and animals on hand on Saturday, April 27 from 1 to 4 p.m. Plant pre-orders are due on April 11 and can be picked up the day of the festival.
