County ranks 5th on EPA’s list of local government green power purchasers

The Environmental Protection Agency released its quarterly list of the Top Green Power Partners and Montgomery County is the fifth ranked local government!

The EPA National Green Power Partnership List ranks the largest green power users within the Green Power Partnership.  The Partnership is a voluntary program to encourage green power use by businesses, governments, schools and nonprofits. There are currently more than 1,200 partners who purchase billions of kilowatt-hours of green power.


#41 Overall and #5 Local Government

The spring quarter Top 100 Green Power Partners has ranked the Montgomery County Clean Energy Buyers Group the #41 green buyer. This makes Montgomery County the fifth ranked local government, behind Houston, DC, Austin, and Dallas, and the highest ranked County. The Group purchases 26.1% of its energy as green power.

The Montgomery County Clean Energy Buyers Group is made up of the Montgomery County Government, Montgomery County Public Schools, Montgomery College, the Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Chevy Chase Village, Chevy Chase Village Section 5, City of Gaithersburg, City of Rockville, City of Takoma Park, Town of Kensington, and the Town of Somerset.
