Baby, it’s cold outside!

As the winter season makes its way to Maryland, people begin putting together their checklists in preparation for the cold weather. Sweaters and scarves are brought up from the back of the closet, hot chocolate supplies are replenished, and extra attention is paid to the Weather Channel for upcoming snow days.

Another item that Maryland homes and businesses add to the checklist is the setting aside of extra cash for rising energy costs that go along with keeping our buildings comfortable during the winter season. Over the past few years, folks in Maryland who depend on natural gas for heating usually see a 223 percent spike in energy costs during the colder months (October through March)!

Although cold weather is the catalyst for the temperature to be raised on the thermostat, relying on older and less efficient equipment is often the main culprit for higher energy bills every month. An even more unfortunate scenario would be to discover that a furnace, boiler, or water heater no longer operates and needs to be replaced when it is needed most! Home and business owners could use a helping hand to make the next step up to more efficient equipment and take the sting out buying a whole new one.

Washington Gas to the rescue

Washington Gas can lend that helping hand in the form of rebates for natural gas equipment and appliances. As part of the EmPOWER Maryland initiative to reduce energy consumption throughout the state, rebates are available for Washington Gas residential and commercial customers within the Maryland service territory. These rebates are specifically designed to help our customers become more efficient in their energy use and lower the upfront costs of purchasing more efficient equipment. Having these rebates available can enable people to make smarter choices in how they consume energy, all while being able to keep their home or business comfortable more affordably.

For residential customers, Washington Gas is offering rebates for furnaces, tankless water heaters, and standard storage water heaters. Rebates for programmable and Wi-Fi-enabled thermostats are also available. Wi-Fi enabled thermostats (such as the Nest™ Learning Thermostat) contain the latest technology for heating and cooling homes and can provide additional energy savings. Taking advantage of these rebates will allow customers to save up to 40% when purchasing the eligible models.

Businesses also have a wide array of commercial rebates to put to good use. Rebates are available for both furnaces and water heaters at various scales. Larger offices or multifamily buildings can save by utilizing rebates for various types of boilers and boiler components. Customers in the restaurant industry can take the next step towards being more efficient with rebates for food service equipment such as ovens, fryers, and griddles.

During this winter, don’t get left out in the cold! Whether you need a system replacement, want to lower your energy bills, or reduce your impact on the environment, visit WashingtonGasRebates.com to find out more information and start saving today!
