Join us for Brews and Bulbs

What do beer and light bulbs have in common? They both come in a variety of colors! Come find out what color light bulb you should have in every room of your house and then order a beer in that hue!

These events were a collaboration with local breweries to encourage residents to recycle their old incandescent and CFL bulbs and swap them for LED bulbs.

During these events, we collected 1,443 bulbs.
We were able to recycle the bulbs properly and safely
and we provided Montgomery County residents with new, LED light bulbs at no cost!

Do you need voulnteers to staff these events?

    1. Lindsey Shaw says:

Hi Chris–thank you so much for your question and interest in DEP’s Brews and Bulbs events! We do not need volunteers for these events but hope you are able to stop by.

If you’re interested in volunteering at DEP, you can see our volunteer and internship opportunities on our website here: http://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/dep/volunteer.html.

Hello, Thank you for hosting these events. Can you please let us know how you dispose of the incandescent and CFL bulbs that are turned in? Thank you.

Thank you for contacting us about these fun events! We bring all of the bulbs to our Shady Grove Transfer Facility to recycle and dispose of the bulbs. Here is more information about the CFLs in general: https://mygreenmontgomery.org/2018/cfls/

Hopefully you have some more bulbs to turn in at another event!

      Kindly,
      DEP Energy

Thank you but it would be much more helpful if the address or at least the town were listed on this page. Depending on where you live to select a location nearest your home or work. Current format requires me to look up every location.

    1. Larissa Johnson says:

Thank you for the suggestion, we will add it to the listing. If you click on the blue hyperlink, it will bring you to the exact location so you don’t have to look them all up. Hope that helps as well!

      Thank you!

    Hello,

Is this event for Montgomery County residents only?

    1. Larissa Johnson says:

Jake, thank you for your interest in the program. The program is sponsored by the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection and occurs at Montgomery County businesses so they are tailored to connect with Montgomery County residents. That being said, we don’t check people’s IDs so sometimes people from other County’s may be in attendance. Just a reminder that when you come, you can bring us as many bulbs as you want but we only provide 3-4 bulbs in exchange. Hope to see you at an event soon!
