Shop Maryland Energy Tax Free Weekend 2019 for ENERGY STAR Products

During President’s Day weekend, shoppers across Montgomery County can participate in the state’s Shop Maryland Energy Tax Free Weekend which gives residents a break on the six percent sales tax for qualifying ENERGY STAR products.

Energy Star Tax Free Weekend

Energy Tax Free Weekend is a statewide sales tax holiday that highlights the importance of energy efficient appliances to the environment and residents’ pocketbooks.

2019 Tax Free Weekend

Shop Maryland Energy weekend takes place from the Saturday immediately preceding the third Monday in February until the third Monday of February. These are signature events of the Comptroller of Maryland’s office and are a statewide initiative to assist consumers purchasing Energy Star appliances.

In an effort to support the ENERGY STAR Tax Free Weekend, DEP staff will be visiting a few locations throughout the County. At these events, we will be available to answer your questions about energy efficient appliances and rebates that are available. Stop by and say hi, we will be giving away some fun DEP goodies!

Benefits of ENERGY STAR

Energy Tax Free Weekend is a great opportunity to replace or upgrade appliances. Eligible ENERGY STAR appliances and lighting include: air conditioners, clothes washers, clothes dryers, furnaces, heat pumps, standard size refrigerators, LED light bulbs, dehumidifiers, boilers and programmable thermostats. Programs like Energy Tax Free Weekend and the EPA’s ENERGY STAR program help us reach our goals to reduce energy and save Montgomery County residents energy and money in their homes.

Residents using the weekend to upgrade appliances could also take advantage of additional programs to recycle old appliances, such as old working refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners or dehumidifiers.  Prior to purchasing new appliances, residents can contact their utility supplier to see if they are eligible for rebates and schedule pick up of the old appliance. Most appliance are eligible for either $25 or $50 in rebates.

    Does this tax free apply for the on-line purchase of the energy star cloth washer to be made on Feb 16 -18,2019 ?

    Does a high efficiency tankless water heater (Navien NPE-240A high efficiency 97%, energy star) qualify? I can’t get through on the telephone numbers to comptroller’s office. Call volume too high. Thanks.
