Since the summer of 2017, the County has been partnering with Montgomery County Public Libraries during the summer to support their Summer Reading Program. The target audience for Energy Express is elementary-aged students (K-6th grade) and their parents. During these presentations, we take the theme of the Summer Reading Program and create a STEM focused presentation about ENERGY. Every year, there is a different theme so the focus changes but the activities are always interactive, engaging, and educational.
This is the 5th year we are partnering with Montgomery County Public Libraries during their Summer Reading Program and we will be VIRTUAL again this year. Yes, all of our presentations will be via Zoom. You will have to register with the libraries to attend.
This year’s theme is “Tails and Tales” and the Department of Environmental Protection’s Residential Energy Program has so many stories about ENERGY that we want to share with kids (and their families) throughout the County. This year, we have a special treat because students from the P.O.W.E.R. (Peer Outreach with Energy Resources) Program we be providing these presentations to students and their families.
The P.O.W.E.R. Program is a collaboration between Audubon Naturalist Society and DEP. Through this program, high school students learned how to share valuable information with Montgomery County residents about energy conservation, efficiency, and renewable energy opportunities available to them. These high school students have been trained to provide the most informative and interactive presentation at libraries this summer.
Join us for this energy journey where we tell the TALE of energy from fossils to fuels of the future. We loved the “Choose You Own Adventure” theme so much that this year, students will get to choose their favorite dinosaur TAIL to help us tell this TALE.
Participants are invited to pick up an activity kit before or after this program at one of the following libraries: Aspen Hill, Connie Morella, Damascus, Gaithersburg, Silver Spring, and Wheaton.

Thank you for making this wonderful program possible!
I am part of a team of teachers and students (middle and high school in Mo county). We’d love to attend one or more of the student’s marvelous P.O.W.E.R. library presentations.
I see that presentations are scheduled to run at least from June 17 to August 3.
Will there be any library presentations in late August? Specifically in the August 12 to August 23 range.
Also: Are there any plans for P.O.W.E.R. presentations to be made in MoCo schools in the fall or spring? If so, would love to learn more on that. Would be great in our schools!
Thank you!
