Every President’s Day weekend, shoppers across Montgomery County can participate in the state’s Shop Maryland Energy Tax Free Weekend which gives residents a break on the six percent sales tax for qualifying ENERGY STAR products.
This year, it coincides with Valentine’s Day which means that you can treat your loved one to brand new appliances without paying sales tax!
ENERGY STAR© Tax Free Weekend is a statewide sales tax holiday that highlights the importance of energy efficient appliances to the environment and residents’ pocketbooks.

Consumers will get a break from the state’s 6 percent sales tax on qualifying ENERGY STAR products from February 13-15, 2021. During Shop Maryland Energy weekend, the following ENERGY STAR products are tax free:
Shop Maryland Energy weekend will occur in perpetuity (or until legislative amendment) from the Saturday immediately preceding the third Monday in February until the third Monday of February. Additionally, a tax free week on clothing and footwear priced $100 or less will occur every year during the second week of August. 2021_Rack_Card_Front_and_Back
From 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, Saturday, February 13, through midnight on Monday February 15, 2021, qualifying ENERGY STAR products will be exempt from Maryland’s 6 percent sales tax. For additional information, please see the Comptroller’s Frequently Asked Questions.
