Montgomery Energy Connection, a program of the County, continues pledging to “Age with Attitude” with its partnership with Senior Planet Montgomery. Together, they are teaming up to keep money in the pockets of Montgomery County seniors and ensuring access to learning opportunities to explore technology that can lower their utility bills.
Through virtual workshops at libraries, community, and senior centers throughout Montgomery County, Senior Planet will offer sessions for older adults focused on user-friendly tools and resources so residents can utilize energy-saving technologies to improve their daily lives.
There are many ways technology can improve or assist energy conservation–whether it’s monitoring your energy usage, paying your utility bill online, or finding energy inefficiencies in your home. If you’d like to learn more, don’t miss out on an upcoming Senior Planet lecture or workshop near you!
Merlyn, a Montgomery County resident, tells us about her experience:
“During the past almost 14 months with Senior Planet I have gained a lot useful information, including exercise classes, yoga, Tai Chi, meditation techniques and apps for them. In addition, I learned about energy tips from Senior Planet Montgomery, including a free visit by a contractor who installed energy-saving LED lights, a water-conserving shower head and power strip. I also obtained updates on smart phones, hosting Zoom, YouTube, protecting personal online, graphic tools and virtual museum tours. During the past year of Covid- enforced isolation, Senior Planet Montgomery provided a welcoming community experience.”

Below is a sampling of lectures that we have delivered in the past via zoom. Prior to the pandemic, all programs were delivered in person.
Senior Planet is partnering with Montgomery County Department of Technology Services to get the word out about the Electronic Broadband Benefit, a federal subsidy of up to $50 a month for qualifying individuals to cover the monthly cost of home broadband internet.
The $50 benefit can cover the entire monthly cost of home broadband. One EBB discount is available per household.
EBB is a temporary program that will last until federal funding runs out or six months after the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services declares the pandemic is over. There are no long-term contracts required.
