Did you know that Costa Rica runs entirely on renewable energy, or that Japan is preparing to send solar panels to space? Hear all about it at Energy Express, where we will embark on a tour of renewable energy around the world.
Travelers aged 5 through 12 are invited to spend an hour with Energy Express at select MCPL branches throughout July. Participants will visit renewable energy facilities in Germany, Japan, and Costa Rica to learn about the world’s natural beauty and how electricity can be generated from sunlight, wind, and water. And of course, our flight is completely carbon-free: we will visit each country from the comfort of our local libraries as per the summer reading theme, “Adventure Begins at your Library.”
Our tour guides this summer are high school students from P.O.W.E.R. Interns. Now in its sixth year, P.O.W.E.R is a collaboration between the Department of Environmental Protection and Nature Forward. Starting in November, MCPS high school students in the P.O.W.E.R program have learned about energy sources, conservation, and efficiency, and are joined by students from Eco MoCo to host Energy Express this summer.
