Montgomery County is making waves in sustainable landscaping with the upcoming Landscaping with Batteries Field Day! Hosted by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), this free event will take place on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Montgomery College Germantown Campus (20200 Observation Dr.).
With the County’s ban on gas-powered lawn equipment set to take effect on July 1, 2025, this event gives residents, landscapers, and gardeners the opportunity to explore battery-powered equipment before the new law goes into effect. The event will feature product demonstrations from 12 manufacturers, vendor discounts, and raffles where you can win landscaping equipment!
Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich shared his enthusiasm about the event, stating, “Our transition away from gas-powered leaf blowers is about reducing noise pollution and moving toward a more sustainable future.” He continued, “Events like Landscaping with Batteries Field Day help landscapers and residents see how effective battery-powered equipment can be.”
This event is a great chance to experience firsthand how switching to electric-powered lawn tools can make a real difference. Not only do these tools reduce the environmental impact, but they also lead to quieter, cleaner neighborhoods.
DEP Director Jon Monger emphasized, “Our goal is to make the transition from gas to cleaner, more efficient battery and electric-powered tools as seamless as possible. This event is the perfect opportunity for everyone to explore the benefits of battery-powered tools, from landscapers to homeowners.”
