Shop Maryland Energy Tax Free Weekend

The Comptroller of Maryland has deemed February 18-20, 2017 as Shop Maryland Energy Weekend!

Montgomery County residents get a break from the state’s 6% sales tax on qualifying Energy Star products over the President’s Day Weekend.

What Items are Tax Free?

During the weekend, the following Energy Star products are tax free:

  • Air conditioners
  • Washers and dryers
  • Furnaces
  • Heat pumps
  • Boilers
  • Solar water heaters (tax-exempt at all times now)

  • Standard size refrigerators
  • Dehumidifiers
  • Programmable thermostats
  • Compact fluorescent light bulbs
  • Light-emitting diode (LED) light bulbs
  • And More!!

Special Shop Maryland Energy Events

During Shop Maryland Energy weekend, DEP’s Residential Energy Program will be at the following locations making sure you have applications for the EmPOWER Appliance Rebates available from all utility suppliers: BGE, Pepco, and Potomac Edison.

Staff will also be available to answer any questions you have about energy efficiency, renewable energy, and other DEP programs.
