Gaithersburg residents can make an appointment to bring in select personal items for free repair at the City’s first ever Fix It Fair, taking place Saturday, April 23, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Casey Community Center. The “right to repair” and the ability to fix material is crucial to transitioning away from a disposal society and diverting useful materials from landfills. This Green Month activity is hosted by the Environmental Affairs Committee.

Montgomery Energy Connection will be there to take old incandescent and CFL bulbs from residents and swap them with LEDs. 

Fixing will be done by appointment only. Registration is required, and you can have up to two different items repaired, which can include:

• Textiles/Clothing
• Tool Sharpening (electric mower blades, pruners etc.)
• Lamps
• Small Appliances

Please only register one item per time slot and provide as much detail as possible. Our volunteer fixers cannot guarantee repairs. They will review your request prior to the event to confirm that they can attempt to fix it. You will receive an appointment cancellation notice if our fixers don’t think the repair can be done at this event. All attendees must sign a hold harmless agreement before the repairs begin.

If spaces are full, we encourage you to sign up for the waitlist. Space may open up once our fixers review all of the requests. The waitlist will also help us determine if future events would be useful to the community.
