Audubon Naturalist Society: Conservation Café: Transforming our Cities: Imagining a future of equity and sustainability

Thursday, September 17, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

On September 17 at 7 pm, please join me for a virtual evening with lively, passionate, and brilliant Maisie Hughes on a journey of imagining our way into more sustainable cities. More than 80% of the U.S. population lives in cities, on a small fraction of the American land area. Cities are vibrant, dynamic, changing places, that contain immense opportunities and also immense inequalities.

Let’s imagine a world where the places most of us live, cities, are transformed for the better: where they are truly equitable and sustainable, where all have access to nature and green space, and the ability to live healthy, self-determined lives.

I will moderate a dialogue with Maisie on these and other questions submitted by the live audience:

  • What is the difference between nearby green space, and accessible green space?
  • How can communities co-create and co-design green spaces that meet their needs?
  • How can communities of color, those most impacted by redlining, disinvestment, pollution, and Covid (among other things) gain and use power to help shape their places and spaces in our shared cities?
  • How can those with power and privilege use it to support this equitable, sustainable transformation?
