Black Planet: Black Environmental Legacies, Present & Futures
This discussion will bring together a community of scholars-activists from academia and non-profit organizations for a rich dialogue on the legacy of Black environmental leadership, scholarship and activism. Black people around the world have founded, shaped and driven environmental movements, and this conversation honors those contributions while looking to present day leaders in the environment. We will hear from our panelists on what brought them into environmental work, challenge colonial notions of what it means to look like and be an environmentalist, and engage in a journey to reconnect to the land and to ourselves.
Panelists include:
Arica Hill, Director, Environmental Awareness Group of Antigua and Barbuda
Dr. Asmeret Asefaw Berhe, Falasco Endowed Chair in Earth Science and Geology, UC Merced
Dr. David Pellow, UC Santa Barbara
Freweyni Asress, Creator, Zero Waste Habesha
Kerene Tayloe, Director of Federal Legislative Affairs, WE ACT for Environmental Justice
Dr. Suzanne Pierre, Founder, Critical Ecology Lab
