The Gaithersburg Parks, Arts & Recreation Corporation (G-PARC) Art Alliance, in conjunction with the City’s Stormwater Management Program, is pleased to announce a spring Storm Drain Art project designed to bring attention to the importance of protecting our Chesapeake Bay watershed.
Artists of all ages are invited to submit their designs either online or through the mail. Details & specifications can be found in the Documents section of this page. All artwork must be submitted electronically or postmarked by Monday, March 29, 2021. A group of members from the local artistic community will review the submissions & choose five to be painted by volunteers on the storm drain covers at Bohrer Park at Summit Hall Farm. The selected designs may also be used in banners, posters, coloring books, other educational materials, and on social media. Selections will be announced on Earth Day, Thursday, April 22, 2021.
Volunteers are also being sought to help paint the storm drain covers. The project will require five artists to lead the teams and five families, study groups or other small groups that are within a COVID “bubble” to participate. It is a fun way for students to earn SSL hours while promoting the environment. Painting is tentatively planned for June.
