SUMMARY:Energy Express at Twinbrook Library
DESCRIPTION:Energy Express is a summer event for kids and families to learn about energy usage. As a partnership between the Department of Environmental Protection and Montgomery County Public Libraries\, these presentations will take place across the County’s libraries as part of the Summer Reading Program. And for the first time since 2019\, Energy Express presentations are happening IN PERSON! Set sail on a treasure hunt towards energy savings with this year’s Summer Reading theme\, “Oceans of Possibilities.” On board\, our young crewmates will explore different energy sources and make smart decisions to power our ship (and our homes). Our adventure will be led by high school students from the P.O.W.E.R (Peer Outreach With Energy Resources) program who have worked all year to prepare this interactive energy story.

SUMMARY:Webinar: EV Charging for Condos\, Co-ops\, and Townhomes
DESCRIPTION:Montgomery County’s CCOC (Commission on Common Ownership Communities) along with DEP (Department of Environmental Protection) and Montgomery County GreenBank to hold a seminar on Electric Vehicle Charging stations so you can charge at home. \nMontgomery County residents and businesses own an estimated 10\,900 electric vehicles and 5\,600 plug-in hybrids. Nearly 40 percent of all electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles in Maryland are located within Montgomery County. The Maryland Department of the Environment’s Zero Emission Vehicles Program has set a goal of having 60\,000 zero-emission vehicles in the State by 2020 and 300\,000 by 2025. \nElectric vehicles are coming to Montgomery County\, and it’s no surprise why: EVs save money\, reduce emissions\, and are fun to drive. \nCharging at home is one of the biggest benefits of driving electric\, making it an important asset for condos\, co-ops\, and townhomes with shared parking. Multiple communities across the county have installed charging or begun exploring the process. \n“As Montgomery County strives to achieve zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2035\, providing safe ways to charge while parked on public streets should make it easier for residents to own and operate the electric vehicles that will play an important role in helping us reach that goal\,” said Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich. \nJoin our round table discussion and presentation to learn what you need to install charging in your community: \n\nWhat are the benefits of EV charging?\nHow many chargers should we install?\nHow can we manage shared parking?\nHow much does it cost and what incentives and financing are available?\nWhat should we expect from permitting and construction?\n\nThe dates of the seminar will be September 6th from 6 pm to 8 pm or September 11th from 10 am to 12 noon. To register for this zoom event\, please follow this link to register.\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_b94Q49rOQ5m0YWOyqwnEIw \nThen click the “DROP DOWN” at date\, to choose the date you wish to attend\, seating is limited.

SUMMARY:Redesigning Our Communities for Life After Fossil Fuels
DESCRIPTION:It’s time to scale way back\, redesign how we’re living and roll up our sleeves to restore our ecosystems\, soil\, biodiversity\, and connections with our neighbors. \nAs we learn and take action on how to live within the Earth’s limits\, it’s vital that we co-invent and redesign our new lifestyles with every member of our community\, especially our underserved community members\, and even look to them for their expertise on how to be resilient. \nToo often\, communities of color and low income communities have been left out of the conversation\, the plans and the funding\, despite often being the most seriously impacted by the climate and other crises. Let’s move forward by coming together\, learning from one another\, and supporting each other as we strengthen our resilience and face the challenges ahead. \nJoin us! \nSuggested Donation:  $25   (sliding scale & scholarships available)  \n  \nNote:  We want you to join us more than anything\, so in addition to our sliding scale options\, we have scholarship options available to those in need. Please email staff@bio4climate.org to receive a scholarship registration.
