Arlington County Environmental Sustainability Planner

Arlington County’s Department of Environmental Services (DES) is seeking an Environmental Sustainability Planner to lead the zero waste resolution, setting a waste diversion goal of 90% by 2038, and oversee the development and implementation of the zero waste plan; and assist with other Solid Waste Bureau programs.  This Environmental Sustainability Planner will be responsible for the required 20-year update of the County’s Solid Waste Management Plan (SWMP) and supervise the work of outside consultants in the development and drafting of the updated SWMP and zero-waste plan.
The Environmental Sustainability Planner will also assist with the Household Hazardous Materials (HHM) program and provides contract and/or project management for various environmental programs in the Environmental Management Office (EMO), within the Solid Waste Bureau. The Environmental Management Office serves as the technical resource on environmental issues for the County focusing on waste management, to include waste reduction, recycling, and reuse.
