Green Building Field Inspector/HERS Rater

We are seeking a highly motivated and passionate individual to join our team of sustainability professionals in providing expert third-party, energy/green building certification services to multifamily projects throughout Maryland, DC, Northern VA, Delaware, and Southern PA.

In this position, you will work in a team environment to support the green certification requirements of buildings by verifying performance through inspections and testing. You will support certification programs such as LEED, Passive House, National Green Building Standard, Enterprise Green Communities, and ENERGY STAR.

Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Conduct green building inspections and performance testing.
  • Record complete and accurate field test data and observations.
  • Clearly convey site visit findings to project teams both verbally and in writing.
  • Conduct trades training sessions with construction teams.

What we’re looking for…
If you’re the right person for this job, you will have a background that demonstrates a commitment to green building practices and affordable housing, with an interest in construction. Alternately, you will have taken coursework in construction, architecture, engineering, environmental studies, building science, etc.

If you are our ideal candidate, you’ll be described as intellectually sharp, agile, and capable. You’ll learn quickly and take satisfaction in identifying solutions to difficult problems in the field. You will enjoy engaging with builders on construction sites and reporting your detailed findings daily. You will also be able to manage your time effectively to support changing project schedules.

Additionally, you will have a service-oriented disposition and be dedicated to client service. You will possess a professional demeanor and the people skills necessary to clearly communicate complex ideas and be attuned to client expectations. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal are essential. It is also vital that you be able to work collaboratively in a positive team environment.

If you have any of the following industry credentials, we’re especially interested in talking to you: HERS Rater, NGBS Green Verifier, LEED Homes Green Rater, PHIUS+ Rater, BPI Building Analyst (or Multifamily Building Analyst, Envelope Professional, or HVAC Professional).

Qualified applicants will have a basic proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and be able to securely transport diagnostic equipment to client sites throughout Maryland, DC, Northern VA, Delaware, and Southern PA.

Physical demands of the job are as follows:

  • Employee will be performing tasks using a computer and other light office equipment.
  • Employee is regularly required to sit; walk; use hands to type, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Employee is occasionally required to stand. Standing desks are provided upon request.
  • Employee must frequently lift or move objects up to 40 pounds, climb stairs, use ladders up to 12 feet, and endure typical construction site conditions. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Field work involves trips to projects sites. This sometimes requires work in basements, crawlspaces and attics, as well as in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Frequent, local day travel with personal vehicle will be necessary (estimated 50%). Mileage is reimbursed. A valid, unrestricted driver’s license is required and must be maintained without interruption.
