Context: The National Press Secretary Develops and implements media strategies that are rooted in Equity, Inclusion and Justice for the Sierra Club. She/They/He will manage the work of media staff and represents the Sierra Club to national media. This position is ideal for a highly organized, detail-oriented, independent, and deadline-oriented individual with a strong interest in environmental and social justice issues who can bring their talents to bear in a fast-paced, collaborative, and strategic growth-focused environment.
Scope: The National Press Secretary will guide the communications strategy for all Sierra Club campaigns and activities to consistently articulate the Sierra Club’s commitment to environmental protection and environmental justice. The National Press Secretary will have a solid grasp of the issues involved in Sierra Club’s work to defend everyone’s right to a healthy world and approach the task with compassion and vigor. She/They/He will cultivate national media representatives and coordinate the Sierra Club’s work with other environmental or social justice groups and associations as appropriate. Pitches Sierra Club stories, statements, and reactions to the key national press. Identifies spokespeople and conducts media trainings for field, chapter staff and volunteer activists with the Sierra Club Training Academy. Works closely with the Chief of Communications, Deputy Chief of Communications, Communications Strategists, and Program Department leaders on implementing national media work. Serves as a key leader on strategic communications and crisis communications.
