Community of Practice Manager – Remote, US
Grade Level: Advocacy S3 – $113,000 to $122,000
Position Summary
The Community of Practice Manager will join the Resilient Communities division of the People & Communities program focuses on building and activating partnerships, advancing holistic policies and climate solutions that provide strong health, economic and social benefits, and seeing them through investment and implementation. We aim to support historically underrepresented communities, BIPOC communities, EJ communities, and communities most impacted by climate action and inaction, specifically related to infrastructure, buildings, power, and transportation. We believe to make lasting and far-reaching progress on climate change, we must form inclusive partnerships and coalitions to drive wide-ranging and effective change, explicitly designed to benefit people in the places they work and live.
Resilient Communities’ matrixed team is made up of advocacy, equity, technical, community engagement, and partnership experts who collaborate to advance equitable climate action throughout the country. It includes a Place-Based Integrated Solutions team (or Place-based), an Equity, Networks & Partnerships team (ENP), and Center of Excellence (or Sectors) teams for Transportation, Buildings, and Energy. The ENP team works across the Resilient Communities division to elevate and operationalize justice and equity in our work. The team supports capacity building amongst team members to advance equitable policies and approaches while holding colleagues accountable for equity practices. The team also builds new, and strengthens existing, relationships with partners as well as participate in and contribute to networks and various coalitions.
Position Requirements
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a related field; or equivalent work experience.
- At least 5-7 years of progressive, related work experience
- At least 3 years of experience advocating or organizing partners to implement sustainability/clean energy/climate/ transportation policy and programs
- Experience managing and leading a community of practice or similar work with teams who are part of large, cross-sector, multi-partner initiatives
- Experience with facilitating networks of cities or individuals with common goals
- Experience in coordinating with coalitions of NGO advocates, private sector allies, and/or government partners
- Connections to a national network of network mission-driven advocacy, non-profits, professional and academic organizations.
- Deep understanding and demonstrated commitment to and competency in integrating and holding equity and racial justice principles in your work.,
- A commitment and understanding to contribute to an inclusive working and learning environment and experience with advancing DEI
- Ability to participate in teams that work collaboratively towards shared outcomes
- Facilitation skills and experience in designing and leading meetings for equity
- Excellent writing skills, strong verbal communication, and confident public speaker
- Willingness to travel throughout the United States, including to other NRDC offices as needed
