Clean Energy Group (CEG) seeks a Project Director to coordinate and manage specific projects that are carried out by Clean Energy Group; communicate with diverse project participants and external stakeholders; engage in research and analysis on clean energy policies and markets to support a range of projects; and provide information, advise and consulting services. The Project Director will devote considerable attention to solar PV, battery storage, and energy resilience with a focus on supporting clean energy development in low-income communities and communities of color but will also work on projects involving other technologies.
CEG is a national, advocacy organization working on innovative policy, technology, and finance strategies in the areas of clean energy and climate change. CEG promotes effective clean energy policies and fosters partnerships to advance clean energy markets that will benefit all sectors of society for a just energy transition. CEG manages and staffs the Clean Energy States Alliance (CESA), a national, nonprofit coalition of public agencies and organizations working together to advance clean energy. CESA members—mostly state agencies—include many of the most innovative, successful, and influential public funders of clean energy initiatives in the country. Location: The employee with have the option of working in the Montpelier, VT office once the pandemic subsides (preferred), or working remotely.
Availability: This is a full-time position, with responsibilities commencing immediately upon selection of the most qualified candidate.
The Project Director will carry out project management, outreach, research, writing, and administrative tasks related to CEG’s project efforts, including the Resilient Power Project and Phase Out Peakers, as well as policy-focused work primarily related to energy storage.
Responsibilities will include:
- Coordinate and manage specific projects that are carried out by CEG and CESA
- Research and draft newsletters, white papers, short papers and memos on various clean energy policies and technologies
- Provide information and analysis to support clean energy program and policy development, particularly in the areas of low-income access to solar and battery storage and solar paired with battery storage for energy resilience at community-serving facilities
- Monitor clean energy market trends and policy developments in order to communicate relevant information to diverse stakeholders
- Carry out research tasks to assist senior CEG staff members
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with collaborators and partner organizations
- Contribute to preparation of materials for new funding opportunities and reporting on existing funded activities
- Participate in ongoing strategic planning for current and new project areas
- Carry out other research, writing, and administrative tasks as necessary
Desired Qualifications and Experience:
- Knowledge of clean energy issues and the types of policies used to advance clean energy
- Understanding of solar and energy storage industry and market landscape
- Ability to effectively work with a diverse range of people
- Strong research and organizational skills
- Excellent communication and writing skills
Education and Experience:
- Five years’ relevant work experience, with a preference for:
- experience working on solar energy and/or energy storage
- experience working with community-based organizations and/or environmental justice advocates
- Understanding of clean energy technology and policy
- A Graduate degree, in a related field preferred but not required
Salary Range: Anticipated starting salary is $60,000 – $70,000, depending upon qualifications
Travel: Post COVID-19, occasional domestic travel will be required. Business travel typically lasts from two to three days with some weekend travel necessary.
