We are currently seeking to hire a flexible, part-time to full-time Landscape Design Assistant to join our team! This motivated individual should be a self-starter with great communication skills and willing to take direction from the Owner/Principal Designer. Our projects require Vectorworks.
Our talented design|build team provides almost 30 years knowledge, skills, and experience to holistically provide sustainable landscape design|build services spanning a diversity of projects and sites in Northern Virginia. Our work merges ecology, art, and construction to create uniquely individual and thoughtful sustainable outdoor living spaces, while specializing in stormwater management and conservation landscaping with local native plants for a healthier Chesapeake Bay Watershed.
Since 2015, we have planned, designed, and installed the most VCAP/CAP rebate projects in the NVSWCD district, which includes Fairfax County and any incorporated towns within, City of Alexandria and City of Fairfax. Additional client projects maximized rebates from Montgomery County RainScapes, Prince George’s County Rain Check , and Washington, DC DOEE RiverSmart Rebate Programs.
In the March/April 2023 Arlington Magazine Home Issue, one of our favorite rain garden projects was featured in the magazine’s Rain Garden article (pages 93-94). Several of our sustainable and stormwaterwise landscape projects have been selected to participate in the Arlington and Fairfax County Green Homes and Watershed-Friendly Garden Tours. Main Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Ability to perform site inventory and site analysis that includes field measurements and photos of existing site conditions, base mapping, and stormwater assessment.
Layout and mark projects under direction and supervision of the Principal Designer
Perform warranty under direction and supervision of the Principal Designer
Be willing to learn our services and projects.
Shadow Owner/Principal Designer on initial sales consultations and follow up.
Prepare simple hardscape and landscape design plans under direction and supervision of the Principal Designer
Prepare simple planting lists and planting plans under direction and supervision of the Principal Designer
General sales, marketing, and admin duties assigned by the Principal Designer
Perform cost estimating, and prepare simple design and project proposals under direction and supervision of the Principal Designer
We need someone comfortable balancing working outdoors and in a remote home office with Vectorworks on a regular basis. The candidate should have basic skills with freehand graphics, excellent communications skills and customer service, strong computer skills, handling several projects at the same time, thorough knowledge of invasive, exotic and native plants, stormwater management cost share programs and best management practices (BMPs), hardscape and landscape construction, and construction management.
Entry Level: 1-5 years experience. A degree or certification in landscape design or landscape architecture. CBLP certification a plus.
This is a part-time to full-time position. Pay will be hourly or project by project while part-time. The chosen candidate will have an excellent opportunity for growth into a full-time Landscape Sales Designer position.
