SUMMARY:Pulitzer Prize-winner\, Science Writer\, and Journalist Elizabeth Kolbert joins Contemporary Conversations Series on March 5
DESCRIPTION:Elizabeth Kolbert\, staff writer for The New Yorker and author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning “The Sixth Extinction\, An Unnatural History\,” will be part of the free Contemporary Conversations series at Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) at 7 p.m. on March 5. Kolbert will participate in a virtual conversation on climate change and how our habits and decisions can make an impact. The conversation will be moderated by Adriana Hochberg\, Climate Change officer for Montgomery County and acting director for the Department of Environmental Protection. \nKolbert is the author of several books about the environment (including “Under a White Sky: The Nature of the Future” and “Field Notes from a Catastrophe”) as well as many articles that have appeared in The New Yorker\, The New York Times Magazine\, Vogue\, and Mother Jones. She has been the recipient of numerous awards\, including the prestigious Heinz Award which recognizes individuals who are addressing global change caused by the impact of human activities and natural processes on the environment. \n“This is a timely topic since Montgomery County is committed\, through its Climate Action Plan\, to implement strategies to reduce climate-related risk to its residents\, businesses\, and the built and natural environments\,” said MCPL Director Anita Vassallo. “We are looking forward to a dynamic conversation between Elizabeth Kolbert and Adriana Hochberg that will engage and inspire residents to collectively continue building a healthy\, equitable and resilient community.” \nRegistration for the event is required. SUMMARY:Climate Youth Town Hall
DESCRIPTION:The Climate Youth Town Hall\, hosted by the County Executive\, Montgomery College\, and Montgomery County Public Schools\, is an opportunity for students to connect with each other on climate action and provide feedback on the Draft Climate Action Plan. This virtual event is open to all but is primarily geared to high school and college students from both public and private schools.
