SUMMARY:Education for Community Resilience
DESCRIPTION:Communities throughout the region are dealing with environmental issues and hazards due to extreme weather events\, the impacts of climate change\, current and historical injustices as well as other social and environmental changes. Education plays a key role in shaping how social and environmental justice issues\, longer-term environmental changes\, as well as episodic events\, are dealt with through supporting student’s and the general public’s deeper understanding of scientific processes and ways in which human and natural systems interact. This deeper understanding can ultimately enable communities to make informed and thoughtful decisions that reduce their vulnerability to environmental hazards and stresses and to become more resilient. \nPlease consider joining NOAA and the National Aquarium\, regional science and policy leaders\, and fellow educators in a collaborative 2-day learning opportunity designed to explore some of the science\, policy and social/environmental justice aspects of resilience and consider how resilience is and can be integrated within education programming. \nThis workshop is currently full. If you would like to be added to a wait list\, please email Krysta Hougen at krysta.hougen@noaa.gov.
