The new series is sponsored by the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and One Montgomery Green (OMG). \nThis series will have new discussions on the last Wednesday of each month. \nIn celebration of April as Earth Month\, the featured topics of the opening discussion will be on climate actions\, including highlights from the County’s Climate Action Plan; plans for a new “County tree;” and details about plogging\, a new County-wide\, anti-litter campaign. \nEco Evenings will be hosted by Adam Ortiz\, director of DEP\, and Wendy Howard\, executive director of OMG. They will lead discussions on timely environmental topics\, answer questions and engage with special guests. \n“Eco Evenings are a great idea from the Department of Environmental Protection and One Montgomery Green to engage our constituents through thoughtful discussions to improve our environment\,” said Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich. “We are running out of time before climate change impacts become catastrophic. Adriana Hochberg\, Climate Change Coordinator and Assistant Administrative Office in the Office of County Executive will present the draft Montgomery County Climate Action Plan. For the past few years\, OMG has joined in support of local nonprofits during the holiday season to come together for drinks\, celebration and giving. This year\, OMG is supporting the Wheaton & Kensington Chamber of Commerce Angels for Children 2020 Toy Drive for the holiday season. Additionally\, it will give the attendees a first glance at the upcoming 2021 resiliency initiatives and activities coming to OMG. Tickets: https://omggreensdrinksholiday2020.eventbrite.com \n“We are thrilled to announce that Adriana and members of the Climate Planning Team will present the draft Climate Action Plan to build a healthy\, equitable\, and resilient community.”\n~ Wendy Howard\, Executive Director\, OMG \nThe Climate Action Plan is Montgomery County’s strategic plan to cut greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions 80% by 2027 and 100% by 2035. The Climate Action Plan also details the effects of a changing climate on Montgomery County and includes strategies to reduce climate-related risk to the County’s residents\, businesses\, and the built and natural environment \nOMG will also introduce its Climate Resilience Project launching in 2021 due in part from a generous donation from Pepco’s Sustainable Communities Grant Program. Pepco\, along with their program administrator\, Rock Creek Conservancy\, launched the Sustainable Communities Grant Program\, providing $125\,000 in grants annually to fund open space and environmental projects and resiliency projects across Pepco’s District of Columbia and Maryland service area. OMG was one of 10 local municipalities\, recreational authorities\, and nonprofits to receive grant funding.
