You can bring us as many lightbulbs as you want but there is a limit to 3 LEDs per person. *Please note we only provide standard 60 W equivalent LED bulbs that are 2700K meaning they are warm lightbulbs. If you would like to swap out more bulbs\, we encourage you to schedule a Quick Home Energy Checkup with your utility company. \nThis program is in collaboration with Montgomery County Department of Health & Human Services (HHS)\, Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and Pepco.

DESCRIPTION:Mischief is afoot at your local library! The library’s electricity is missing\, and we need your help to find out what happened. It’s time to gather our magnifying glasses and brush off our searching skills as we set off on an adventure to solve the case of the missing electricity! \nWith the summer reading theme “All Together Now”\, detectives from ages 5-12 can work together to help discover the fate of the library’s electricity all while learning about different energy sources\, environmental justice\, and how to conserve energy at home. Participants can expect to solve puzzles\, play games\, and make crafts as they overcome harrowing plot twists and red herrings to figure out this classic who dunnit. \n

SUMMARY:Urban Farming\, Sustainability and the Environment
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a conversation with Karen Washington\, urban community gardener and food justice advocate and Jarabi S. Walker\, Bowie State University’s first ever Sustainability & Energy Coordinator around the topics of urban farming\, sustainability and the environment. \nKaren Washington has spent decades promoting urban farming as a way to have access to fresh\, locally grown food. She is board member of the New York Botanical Gardens\, co-founder of the La Familia Verde Garden Coalition and Black Urban Growers (BUGS)\, and board president of Greenworker Cooperatives\, which builds and sustains worker-owned green businesses to create a strong\, local\, and democratic economy rooted in racial and gender equity. \nbari S. Walker leads the Office of Sustainability for the 6\,300+ student campus. Walker is credited with creating the Student Green Ambassadors organization\, drafting the BSU Climate Action Plan 2020 and coordinating the world’s first known solar powered bus station that charges mobile\ndevices (on the BSU campus). In 2021\, Walker was appointed by the Maryland Secretary of the Environment as a member of the Education\, Communications and Outreach (ECO) Workgroup of the Maryland Commission on Climate Change\, where he now serves as co-chair. \nThe free program will take place on May 19\, 2023 from 5:30 to 7:15 pm at the Connie Morella Library\, it will be also offered via live streaming.
