SUMMARY:Fix It Fair
DESCRIPTION:The Environmental Affairs Committee of the City of Gaithersburg is excited to host the City’s THIRD Fix it Fair Saturday\, June 1st\, 2024 from 9 am to 1 pm at the Casey Community center. In this event you can bring in an item and potentially have it fixed for free! This is an effort to reduce items that enter our landfills. \nAvailable fixing areas\n-Textile/clothing repairs\n-Tool sharpening & mower blade sharpening\n-Jewelry\n-Lamps\n-Small appliances\n-Bicycle Maintenance – Tube patching\, alignment and oiling \nResidents are encouraged to register with reasonably detailed descriptions for up to two different items per person. Please register for one time slot per fix request. Our volunteer fixers review repair requests prior to the event. If we do not believe a repair can be completed\, requesters will receive a cancellation notice and waitlisted requests will be contacted. All attendees must sign a hold harmless agreement before repairs begin.

SUMMARY:💡Light Bulb Exchange
DESCRIPTION:Throughout the year\, we will be partnering with community organizations to provide residents with LED lightbulbs. DEP staff host light bulb swaps at libraries and at Summer community events. During the light bulb swaps\, participants are asked to bring in their old incandescent or CFL lightbulb. In exchange\, we provide up to 3 free LEDs at no cost. We also bring an informational table and giveaways for participants. Pepco has graciously supplied the LED bulbs. Come out and meet our Energy Ambassadors!

SUMMARY:💡 City of Gaithersburg Fix-It Fair
DESCRIPTION:Gaithersburg residents can make an appointment to bring in select personal items for free repair at the City’s first ever Fix It Fair\, taking place Saturday\, April 23\, 2022\, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Casey Community Center. The “right to repair” and the ability to fix material is crucial to transitioning away from a disposal society and diverting useful materials from landfills. This Green Month activity is hosted by the Environmental Affairs Committee. \nMontgomery Energy Connection will be there to take old incandescent and CFL bulbs from residents and swap them with LEDs.  \nFixing will be done by appointment only. Registration is required\, and you can have up to two different items repaired\, which can include: \n\nTextiles/Clothing\nTool Sharpening (electric mower blades\, pruners etc.)\nLamps\nSmall Appliances\n\nPlease only register one item per time slot and provide as much detail as possible. Our volunteer fixers cannot guarantee repairs. They will review your request prior to the event to confirm that they can attempt to fix it. You will receive an appointment cancellation notice if our fixers don’t think the repair can be done at this event. All attendees must sign a hold harmless agreement before the repairs begin. \nIf spaces are full\, we encourage you to sign up for the waitlist. Space may open up once our fixers review all of the requests. The waitlist will also help us determine if future events would be useful to the community.
