Visit the library to get more information about energy programs and more! \nYou also can bring your old incandescent and compact fluorescent bulbs to swap them for new energy efficient LED light bulbs. You can bring us as many lightbulbs as you want but there is a limit to 3 LEDs per person. *Please note we only provide standard 60 W equivalent LED bulbs that are 2700K meaning they are warm lightbulbs. If you would like to swap out more bulbs\, we encourage you to schedule a Quick Home Energy Checkup with your utility company. \nThis program is in collaboration with Montgomery County Department of Health & Human Services (HHS)\, Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and Pepco.

DESCRIPTION:Mischief is afoot at your local library! The library’s electricity is missing\, and we need your help to find out what happened. It’s time to gather our magnifying glasses and brush off our searching skills as we set off on an adventure to solve the case of the missing electricity! \nWith the summer reading theme “All Together Now”\, detectives from ages 5-12 can work together to help discover the fate of the library’s electricity all while learning about different energy sources\, environmental justice\, and how to conserve energy at home. Participants can expect to solve puzzles\, play games\, and make crafts as they overcome harrowing plot twists and red herrings to figure out this classic who dunnit.

SUMMARY:Energy Express at Gaithersburg Library
DESCRIPTION:Energy Express is a summer event for kids and families to learn about energy usage. As a partnership between the Department of Environmental Protection and Montgomery County Public Libraries\, these presentations will take place across the County’s libraries as part of the Summer Reading Program. And for the first time since 2019\, Energy Express presentations are happening IN PERSON! Set sail on a treasure hunt towards energy savings with this year’s Summer Reading theme\, “Oceans of Possibilities.” On board\, our young crewmates will explore different energy sources and make smart decisions to power our ship (and our homes). Our adventure will be led by high school students from the P.O.W.E.R (Peer Outreach With Energy Resources) program who have worked all year to prepare this interactive energy story.

SUMMARY:Clean Energy Week: Lightbulb Exchange
DESCRIPTION:National Clean Energy Week is a celebration of the policies\, industries\, and innovations that power our daily lives while producing no or very little greenhouse gas emissions. Despite the very real technological and political challenges\, a clean energy future is in our reach\, and America is ready to lead the way. \nAs part of Clean Energy Week 2021\, the Lighten Up lemonade stand will be at various locations throughout the County. All of these locations support clean energy in some way. \nThursday\, September 23\, 2021 from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm at Gaithersburg Library\, 18330 Montgomery Village Ave.\nGaithersburg \nGaithersburg Library has solar panels on roof that provide clean\, low cost energy and an excellent educational opportunity for County residents. Library visitors interested in learning more about solar panels can take out books and other learning materials\, in addition to accessing information through signage and public programming. This system has 720 solar panels installed and provides 271\,234 kilowatt hours annually. That is the equivalent of powering 22 homes\,  keeping 43 cars off the road\, and planting 5\,231 trees.
