SUMMARY:Energy Express at Rockville Memorial Library
DESCRIPTION:Energy Express is a summer event for kids and families to learn about energy usage. As a partnership between the Department of Environmental Protection and Montgomery County Public Libraries\, these presentations will take place across the County’s libraries as part of the Summer Reading Program. And for the first time since 2019\, Energy Express presentations are happening IN PERSON! Set sail on a treasure hunt towards energy savings with this year’s Summer Reading theme\, “Oceans of Possibilities.” On board\, our young crewmates will explore different energy sources and make smart decisions to power our ship (and our homes). Our adventure will be led by high school students from the P.O.W.E.R (Peer Outreach With Energy Resources) program who have worked all year to prepare this interactive energy story.

SUMMARY:Launch Event for the Montgomery Energy Connection
DESCRIPTION:Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich\, County Councilmember Tom Hucker\, Director of the Department of Environmental Protection Adam Ortiz\, Director of the Montgomery County Public Libraries Anita Vassallo and Pepco Holdings\, Inc. Senior Energy Efficiency Program Manager Karen Parham are scheduled to help close out October as Energy Action Month by formally announcing the launch of the County’s new “Energy Connection” website. The website is a comprehensive network providing information on the benefits of energy efficiency\, availability of programs and opportunities for assistance. It will help residents keep more money in their pockets by reducing the amount of energy they use in their homes. \nThe website launch event will be held at 5 p.m. on Wednesday\, Oct. 30\, at the Rockville Memorial Library. It will proceed the first of four “Energy Roadshows” the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) will host over the next few weeks. Energy Roadshows are open-house-style events to learn about all things energy\, including how to make homes more comfortable year-round\, various options for switching to renewable energy and how to spot energy scams. \nThe Rockville Memorial Library is located at 21 Maryland Ave. in Rockville Town Center. \nThe Energy Connection website is a collection of information compiled by Montgomery County DEP and other partner organizations. SUMMARY:Rock Creek Conservancy Fall Stream Team Leader Training
DESCRIPTION:Join Rock Creek Conservancy for our fall Stream Team Leader Training at the Rockville Memorial Library. \nStream Team Leaders are a cadre of dedicated volunteers that work with the Conservancy to protect a section of the Rock Creek watershed. Stream Team Leaders host their own trash cleanups and encourage neighbors and community members to be good stewards of Rock Creek. \nThis will be a great way for you to meet Stream Team Leaders and others who want to get more involved in protecting Rock Creek. You will obtain event-leading skills\, learn a few things about the impact of trash and stormwater pollution on our creek\, and gather helpful information from seasoned leaders in the field. \nThis training will equip Stream Team Leaders with the necessary tools to organize and host trash cleanup efforts throughout the year\, including next year’s Extreme Cleanup on April 18\, 2020. Trainees will also gain valuable information about Rock Creek Conservancy and our 2019 “mini-oases” restoration sites. \n**This training is required to become a Stream Team Leader.
