SUMMARY:Building a Climate Resilient Maryland Together
DESCRIPTION:The State of Maryland and the Netherlands have a long-standing cooperation empowering communities to become resilient\, to prepare for climate change impacts\, and to work in an integrated manner to reduce vulnerabilities. Both regions are expected to be affected by seasonal droughts and heat waves\, frequent thunderstorms\, an increased risk of flooding\, and sea level rise. Maryland and the Netherlands are working together with communities and partners to proactively implement adaptation strategies and are eager to build on the close ties between these regions to exchange lessons learned and best practices\, and collaborate closer together on these topics. \nMEMA\, Maryland Commerce\, and the Netherlands Water Partnership are organizing a joint Maryland-Netherlands event on Tuesday\, January 26 about climate resilience. There will be 3 main sessions and 3 breakout sessions that cover a variety of topics and environments (cities\, small towns / rural\, and coastal). One of the main goals is to provide networking opportunities between Dutch and Maryland experts\, to help increase the collaboration between the two regions. DESCRIPTION:What does it take to reduce significant stormwater on a multifamily property? Join use for a Q&A with Glen Waye Gardens to find out! \nIn this first Q&A session\, we’ll meet Vicki Vergagni\, Property Manager at Glen Waye Gardens Condominium. Over the past 5 years\, Glen Waye embarked on an ambitious journey to reduce the significant stormwater runoff on the property. Through the installation of cisterns\, native reforestation and conservation landscapes\, Glen Waye reduced the flow of stormwater on the property and beautified the complex. Not to mention the reduced runoff into local waterways! \nIn this session is intended for property managers who are interested in reducing stormwater runoff\, preventing erosion and installing native habitats on the complex. The general public is also welcome. \nGlen Waye Gardens Condominium is a 214-unit garden apartment condominium complex with a five-acre footprint on a 15-acre property that drains into the Northwest Branch of the Anacostia River. Built in the late 1960’s\, it was converted from a rental property into a condominium and is now populated by residents of diverse backgrounds. This project was made possible by funding from the Chesapeake Bay Trust and Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection. Award funding is provided through Montgomery County Water Quality Protection Fund.

Participants can register for the Trivia games on our Instagram account (@mcenergyconnection) or at https://montgomeryenergyconnection.org/ The games will be played on Tuesdays at 12:30 pm and Thursdays at 5:30 pm on ZOOM. Each participant that registers will receive an email with all the relevant details. There will be a host and a resident energy expert available to answer questions and give tips on energy savings to players. The three players with the most points per game will be awarded an energy prize pack. We will also announce the winners on MEC’s Instagram account on the day following the Trivia game. The winners will be contacted and arrangements will be made to get them their wonderful prize pack. It’s fun for the whole family!
