DESCRIPTION:WHEATON\, Md. –  Montgomery Parks\, part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission\, invites the public to the April 2022 session of its Parks Speaker Series on the topic of  Mapping Environmental Justice Concerns in Maryland. The free session will take place online on April 20\, 2022\, from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. \n\nIn this session\, Dr. Sacoby Wilson\, Director for the Center of Community\, Engagement\, Environmental Justice and Health will discuss the ongoing development and implementation of the environmental justice mapping tool MD EJSCREEN. Dr. Wilson’s presentation will highlight how the mapping tool was built\, why it’s needed\, and how it has been used by community members\, legal advocates\, policymakers\, and government agency officials. \nWHAT:                     Montgomery Parks Speaker Series(opens in a new tab): \n           Mapping Environmental Justice Concerns in Maryland \nREGISTER(opens in a new tab) \nWHO:                       The event is free and open to the public. \nWHEN:                         Wednesday\, April 20\, 2022 | 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. \nWHERE:                     The session will be held online\, and a link will be sent to registrants the day before the session. \nAbout the Speaker \nDr. Sacoby Wilson is an Associate Professor with the Maryland Institute for Applied Environmental Health and the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of Maryland\, College Park School of Public Health where directs the Center for Community Engagement\, Environmental Justice and Health (CEEJH).  Dr. Wilson has over 20 years of experience as an environmental health scientist in the areas of exposure science\, environmental justice\, environmental health disparities\, community-based participatory research\, water quality analysis\, air pollution studies\, built environment\, industrial animal production\, climate change\, community resiliency\, and sustainability.  He works primarily in partnership with community-based organizations to study and address environmental justice and health issues and translate research to action. \nAbout Montgomery Parks \nMontgomery Parks manages more than 37\,000 acres of parkland\, consisting of 421 parks. Montgomery Parks is a department of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC)\, a bi-county agency established in 1927 to steward public land.
