Another Opportunity for Residents to Go Solar with Capital Area Solar Switch

The Solar Switch auction has taken place! In Maryland and Virginia, the winning solar package offers a price of $2.52/W, which is also 25% lower than current average market prices, and translates to a $7,478 discount on an average system! Personal recommendations will be sent out to all registrants by June 11, 2024.

Montgomery County is promoting another round of the successful Capital Area Solar Switch program in collaboration with Solar United Neighbors, iChoosr, and other Capital Area governments, including Rockville, Takoma Park, and Bowie, MD. The program’s first iteration, which ran from May to August of 2023 in D.C., Maryland, and Northern Virginia was a resounding success, with almost 2,000 sign-ups across the region.

Capital Area Solar Switch makes it easy for homeowners and small businesses to learn about rooftop solar, battery storage, and installation. This program takes advantage of group-buying power and Solar United Neighbors’ expertise to ensure participants receive a quality system at a lower price. Capital Area Solar Switch carefully screens qualified installers to compete for the group and manages a reverse auction to secure a competitively priced, turnkey solar package for potential solar customers.

Solar Switch conducts a rigorous review of installer qualifications, ensuring participants receive a high-quality installation from a trusted installer. In the most recent program, homeowners saved an average of $4,115 on a standard-sized solar installation. The federal solar tax credit can further reduce system costs, making solar energy more accessible than ever before. It is free to register, and there is no obligation to purchase a system. If you want in on those savings, take these steps below.

1. Register – Sign up online today. It comes at no cost, and there are no obligations.
2. Auction – Pre-vetted installers participate in an auction. The best bid wins.
3. Personal recommendation – Based on your registration details, you’ll get a personal recommendation.
4. Make Your Decision: Once you get the offer, you can decide if you want to accept and proceed with a site survey. If you choose to accept, you will be asked to pay a small deposit towards the full cost of your solar installation.
5. Installation: If you accept your recommendation, Solar Switch will transfer you to the installer that won the auction. The installer will contact you for a survey and set an installation date. The survey will verify your roof’s suitability and result in a final offer.
