The Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection’s Recycling and Resource Management Division is looking for volunteers of diverse backgrounds, professions, genders, geography, disabilities, ethnicities, and ages to serve on the Solid Waste Advisory Committee (SWAC) to advise the County Executive and the County Council on the County’s solid waste and recycling efforts. The County has an ambitious goal to reduce waste and recycle more, aiming for Zero Waste!
Some areas of SWAC’s focus include:
Members serve three-year terms without compensation but are eligible for reimbursement for travel and dependent care for in-person meetings attended. The full SWAC usually meets nine times per year. The Committee currently meets virtually by video- and teleconference usually on the first Wednesday of the month at 5:30 p.m. Members are expected to also actively participate on one or more subcommittees. When in-person meetings resume, the Committee will meet in Wheaton.
