Montgomery County’s Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is proud to announce the launch of its Food Truck Generator Electrification Pilot Program. The program aims to reduce noise and pollution from food trucks by providing financial incentives for businesses to switch from gas and diesel generators to clean, quiet, and efficient electric systems.

Financial Incentives:Food Truck Generator Pilot

Thanks to a $150,000 grant from the Maryland Energy Administration (MEA), eligible food truck operators can receive:

  • Zero-interest financing to purchase electric generators.
  • Cash incentives to help offset installation costs.

This initiative helps businesses save on fuel and maintenance costs while reducing their environmental impact.

Why It Matters:

Program benefits:

  • Reduced emissions: Each electric generator replaces the equivalent of four cars’ worth of carbon emissions.
  • Cleaner air: The shift from diesel to electric helps reduce air and noise pollution.
  • Cost savings: Food truck operators will save thousands in fuel and maintenance costs.

How It Works:

To participate, food truck owners need to:

  1. Complete the application form on the DEP website.
  2. Get eligibility confirmation from DEP and additional guidance as needed.
  3. Connect with participating vendors for installation.
  4. Apply for zero-interest financing through Montgomery County Green Bank’s partner, Climate First Bank.

The program helps cover the cost of installing electric systems, which typically range from $10,000 to $25,000.

Eligibility Requirements

Food truck operators must meet the following criteria:

  • Be the owner of a licensed mobile food service business in Montgomery County.
  • Be registered with the State of Maryland and in “good standing.”
  • Purchase an electric generator system that meets their power needs.
  • Provide photos and invoices of the equipment and installation.
  • Be registered in the County Vendor Registration System for direct payments.
